We’re Older Than Dirt
It’s considered impolite to talk about age but we’re pleased to say we’ve been a family-run and Calgary-based business since 1946. It all started with Great-uncle Arn Cummins. While on active duty with the Air Force during WWII, Arn started planning for his family’s future. In 1943 he purchased a plot of land for $450 in north-west Calgary. And, when he was discharged in April, 1946, he began building his business.
On September 4th, The Bike Shop opened.
The Bike Shop specialized in Bike and General Repairs. However, it wasn’t long before Arn started diversifying their product offerings while honing in on his strength as an outdoor equipment provider. Once gas powered rotary lawnmowers were added to the product line-up, a need for a name change became clear. So, in 1949, Arns Bike Shop officially became Arns Equipment and Sharpening Service.

As a member of the local community for 70 years, we feel personally invested in your success. Over the years, we’ve witnessed what trends have faded. And we’ve observed what brands have withstood the test of time. Our expertly trained staff are happy to share this insight with you, so you can make an informed decision about your outdoor equipment.

That’s why we’ve been an authorized dealer of trusted brands like Gravely and Stihl since 1962 and 1980. So that we can receive training straight from the source and offer you the best quality products.
